JB Machinery is a small family-owned business based in Westport, Connecticut, USA, that serves the corrugated printing and packaging industry. Emigrating from the UK with his family in 1982, John Bird (Chairman & CEO) spent two decades in the U.S. graphics arts industry before founding the company in 1998 after realising the synergies between lithographic offset auxiliary equipment and flexography for corrugated packaging.
After two short years of modest growth and peer recognition, he was joined by his oldest son, Warren Bird (President) in 2000, at which time they set out to grow a global footprint. In 2005 and with a brand now fully established and recognised, Nathan Bird, the youngest of the three children (VP of Business Management) was hired to run the daily operations with his concentration on service and spare parts. Shortly thereafter, Tanya Rubin (VP of Finance & HR) and the sole daughter joined the company to manage the ever-expanding scope of the company finances and its activities around the world.
In 2012, the Bird Family was presented with an opportunity to acquire their long-term manufacturing partner, XericWeb Drying Systems located in Neenah, Wisconsin, USA, which was an opportunity that neither party could afford to pass. With near parallel timing, Dave Burgess joined the company as Sales Director to bring his wealth of sales expertise, industry knowledge and established relationships to bolster the brand and increase an ever-expanding user base.
XDS Holdings – as it is known today – is a small thirty-five person company that researches, conceptualises, engineers, manufactures and distributes for JB Machinery. XDS Holdings supports a well-established business on the web offset side of the industry, including numerous specialty product applications. Since 1998, XericWeb/XDS and JB Machinery have led and created a global market with numerous combinations of product, including over 3,000 units of the keystone IR Drying solution, representing partnerships in 56 countries.
In 2019, Spencer Bird (John’s oldest grandson) was invited to join the company, as the Northeast & Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager. This step signaled the beginning of third generation involvement and the potential for future succession to foster the continued global growth.
